How To Have A Long-Lasting Marriage

When some people hear the word “marriage” they duck and cover, while others dream about it their entire youth. I think the answer might differ depending on the age group. Older generations like myself would get married in their early twenties and then that was their partner for life. While, today’s youth gets married later on and is more likely to have multiple marriages. I know the times are changing but I still have my views on how to keep a long-lasting marriage. Knowing the five stages of intimacy could help too.

Long-Term Marriage

Some people think that when they get married they can stop trying. Stop going on dates, stop laughing and stop taking care of yourself. To keep a marriage long-lasting, treat it more like a long-term relationship. Since relationships are less permanent, people tend to listen to their partners feelings and interests more. Meanwhile when your married you get comfortable knowing your partner isn’t going anywhere. But that isn’t always true with so many people cheating. You may even want to get a cell phone spy app.

Trust Each Other

If you married this person than I hope you trust them. Unless you are retired like Harold and I are, you likely won’t be together all the time. You have to trust that this person won’t flirt with other people at work or have an affair while on a business trip. With technology there are so many young couples that are cheating on apps like Tinder. Harold can barely operate a phone so I think I’m safe when it comes to that.

Go On Dates

No matter how long you have been in a relationship or married, you should still go on fun dates. Harold and I enjoy mini golfing although it hurts our backs after a while. Going to the movies is always an interesting date. Half the experience is waiting in line for the ticket and buying popcorn before the movie. I love adding a ton of butter from the machine but Harold doesn’t like it as much. He loves me so he lets me add all the sodium.

Take Care of Each Other

Not only are you spouses, but you are friends too. You should care about each others physical and mental well-being. We try to incorporate healthy food most of the time. But occasionally we do go to Burger King and get larges fries because life is short. Living with someone who you deeply care about is genuinely fun too. So, follow these tips and hopefully they will work for you. Keep your marriage happy and also prevent divorce.
